The History of
Godalming Bandstand

In 2005 the GO Godalming Assn., along with the two Godalming Rotary Clubs, restored the Godalming Bandstand. This restoration consisted of increasing the size of the base and paving it in the form of a Rotary Wheel and adding railings.

Since it was opened in September 2005 we have held over 60 Sunday afternoon concerts and they have become a real focus for the community of Godalming. In 2008 Mrs Jill Hurst gave a very generous donation of £50, 000 in memory of her late husband Peter towards a roof for the bandstand.

This donation, with a grant from Community Spaces (part of the National Lottery)  and many local donations enabled the Go Godalming Assn. to put a roof on the bandstand in 2009. The architect for all the bandstand restoration was Mark Rankin of Insight Architecture and the Project Manager Michael Poulter. Both gave their service free, as did the Structural Engineers Crouch Waterfall. The new Bandstand Roof was opened in June 2009.

Just bring your garden chair and picnic and enjoy a traditional Sunday afternoon by the bandstand in the beautiful setting of the Phillips Memorial Park by the River Wey. Music ranges from brass band and concert band  to jazz, folk and rhythm & blues. Cold drinks and Loseley Ice Creams are available in the Park and  Fair Trade teas and coffees can be purchased in the Octagon (church hall) of the Parish Church overlooking the bandstand.
